When you order this latest Starbucks menu addition, this is what you're getting, according to Starbucks product page:
"Dark caramel coffee Frappuccino® is enveloped between layers of whipped cream that's infused with cold brew, white chocolate and dark caramel. And on each layer of whipped cream sits a dollop of dark caramel sauce. These layers ensure each sip is as good as the last; all the way to the end."
And besides the cash dished out, you do pay for it because while you're enjoying the sweet reward of this drink, it also delivers a whopping 420 calories, 170 of that is from fat. But it hits the spot if you have a sweet tooth that can tolerate this much sweet in one cup!
And as the marketing suggests, it is quite caramel all the way through the entire cup.
So two thumbs up for this new offering.
But...
To be honest, I love this new Starbucks menu addition, and if you read the product description, it seems like it might be a slightly more labor intensive product to make than most of their drinks.
I've watched them make one of mine and the labor involved didn't seem quite so intricate, but to be honest, once I was done going to caramel sweet tooth heaven, I had to ask myself:
Why in the bloody heck haven't they made their original Caramel Frappuccino taste like this??? The ultra actually tastes like a caramel drink should, through and through. There's a part of my brain that feels like we're being ripped off by this new, ultra drink, when the original should already taste like this.
When I order something that is labelled caramel flavored, I tend to expect that stronger sweetness to come through, period.
Their standard caramel frapp is a nice offering but sometimes you wonder if you actually did order a caramel frapp or what? At times they're so bland that it doesn't feel like I had ordered something caramel flavored, so I've been pretty much able to easily resist the place. But if this 'ultra' sticks around, I might be screwed.
We can hope, right?
