Five months after disappearing in a light aircraft flight, the widow of Steve Fossett, Peggy Fossett has had him declared officially dead.
In addition to setting world records and flying unique aircraft, he was an accomplished sailor, climbed the Matterhorn and Mount Kilimanjaro, ran the Boston Marathon, participated in the Iditarod sled dog race and swam the English Channel.
Fossett, 63, departed an airstrip in Nevada on September 3 for Bishop, Calif. and was never seen again. Months of searching produced absolutely no clue of his aircraft.
We've lost an amazing inspiration of a man. RIP Steve. My condolences to his friends and family.
